It is amazing all the words we can write with only 26 letters of the alphabet! The most amazing thing is all the wacky, wonderful words we can use within our writing, but we never do! Well, it is time to change basic word choices to ones that are more captivating for your reading audience.

Wacky words are words that are just fun! They are humorous, unusual, or silly. For example, and these are real words, “bumfuzzle” means to confuse, “Cattywampus” means askew, and “lollygag” is to waste time. You may even hear your teachers or parents state, “Stop lollygagging, there is too much to do.”

Sometimes we get in the habit of using the same boring words again and again and again. What can you do when this kakorrhaphiophobia (ka-kor-uh-fee-uh-foh-bee-uh), or fear of failure prevents you from trying new and different words? Look up the synonyms of the words that bore you, and try something new and different. Try them in your poetry, your prose, your essays, your diaries and journals, or even create a quote or two. Just have fun with words.

The wonderful world of words can even look different within your text. For example,

“I am rolling,

rolling,

rolling down the hill and

just cannot STOP!” shouted Jack and Jill.”

Try forming wiggly, wobbly words that become wonderful from being different in shape or form. Use words repetitively, meaning again and again, or use words with the same beginning letter which is called alliteration.

Just Write It! anyway you want. Have an enjoyable, entertaining, amusing, and delightful time being creative with words. Remember that Magic Dragon wants to read and share your creative writing! Please send in your stories and poems to us.
